Sunlotus emerged as a result of anxiety of changes in society and also the desire of making soundscape ambient. It first started out as a studio rehearsal session between Made Dharma playing guitar and DF Ahmad playing drums which then switched to guitar and asked Wiwit Nugroho to fill in the drums in mid 2018, at the dry land of Blora, Central Java. Influenced by the harsh terrain of dry land which they reside and the memories of the place of hometown where they grew up, they quickly write a couple arrangement and decided to record more songs at Christmas of 2018.

They took the title of “This Old House” for their debut as a representation of how memory works to ignite anxiety as how people grow seeing things change around them compared to as when they were childhood. The album also speaks about perspectives of principles as a person with cultural background families as Javanese people are known for it’s philosophical, and conservative culture. Made Dharma wrote this lyrics as he came back to his hometown with such different views of life after 9 years leaving and met a lot of people from around the globe with diverse cultural background.

As this band was formed in a city where no music scene has a big appeal, the members of the band still wanted to make experimentation for the sake of art that they create. While recording all the instrumentation with 432Hz tuning, they also experiment a lot with ambient sound for tension building, sampling audio, and also use cuts of field recording to their music. This album was self-produced by Made Dharma while asking help from Yudha Bable and was recorded at Watchtower Studio in Yogyakarta, where a lot of major bands recorded their album there, such as Annie Hall, Goddess Of Fate, Exhumation, etc. The music itself range from various influence, from 90’s grunge/college rock such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins to soundscape rock such as jesu, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and even a bit more experimental stuffs like Boris and William Basinski.

The title track pulled me into Slow Crush's orbit, but Tremble held me there - alongside Lull from the Hush LP and the whole of Seasurfer's Dive In, it can send me into an altered state of consciousness. The album vibrates with hints and nudges, from Slowdive twangs to a Corgan-esque chord shift, but Slow Crush are their own sound - thick, dark melodic, etherealistic soundscapes with Isa Holliday's vocals both binding the music and rising above it.
